They can be in the states, or maybe overseas, but actual deployments for them are quite rare. 1A8s will travel and be near/over in the same general area as "where the action is" whatever that means, 1N3s will not. Airborne folks do their job in a plane, 1N3s do their job in a building. In the Air Force there are two jobs - airborne linguist (1A8X1) and "regular" linguist (1N3). We don't know your preferences, so do some research on the job wiki and elsewhere to learn about the job and then make the best list you can. Some people will love certain jobs while others will hate it. Recommendations that they make will be made based mostly on what they've heard about a job, unless they have it themselves. If you're asking for help choosing a particular job, please keep in mind that most people only know about their individual job. If you're asking about particular jobs, please look the job up on our Job Wiki, and see if there is an entry for it: you can also see if there is a CFETP for it, which will give more details on the job: Please read the FAQ about how job selection works, it's very in-depth and will fully educate you on the process: You will have to list 5 - 15 jobs that you're interested in, and will be given one of those. Hello, it looks like you're asking about jobs and job selection. Just wondering if the AF Reddit just has a minority of people willing to be vocal or if that’s a regular culture in the branch.Īny help on these topics would be much appreciated. A lot of it was “as long as you do your job well and have my back I don’t give a shit”.

I expected that kind of vocal hate on the army sub but was surprised that there wasn’t much. To be honest I was a little shocked because I’d heard that the AF was one of the more open-minded branches. I looked through the regular AF Reddit and saw some transgender posts that got quite a lot of hate. This could also just extend to anyone who is transgender letting me know how their Air Force career has been. I’m a transgender man (hormones for almost 10 years, top surgery 3 years ago) and am also looking for any info about basic training for the Air Force and any insight on what it’s like as a transgender individual. Wondering what day to day life is like for a 1N3, if there are exciting tactical things that can be done in a career with that, and overall if people enjoy the job. I’m looking into linguist positions for army and the AF.
